Migrating content, seeding demo pages, or turning a spreadsheet of drafts into real posts usually means creating them one at a time by hand. That’s clicking new post, paste title, paste content, set the category, repeat. This plugin does it from a single CSV upload instead. Wow!

One spreadsheet, LOTS of posts (and/or pages)

Only a title is required. Everything else—slug, publish date, status, author, categories, tags, whether it’s a page or a post—has a sensible default if you leave it blank. Mix posts and pages freely in the same file; the Type column decides row by row.

Dates, statuses, and taxonomies: handled

Leave the date columns blank and the item publishes immediately, right when you upload. Fill them in (year, month, day, hour, minute, all separate columns so nothing gets “helpfully”-Excel-reformatted along the way) and it publishes or schedules for that moment instead.

Month accepts a number, a full name, or a three-letter abbreviation, whichever you’ve already got.

A future date always schedules the item, no matter what the Status column says; anything not in the future goes by Status.

Categories and tags are comma-separated and created automatically if they don’t already exist (so get the spelling right!). These are skipped for pages, since WordPress pages don’t have those in the first place.

Lots of content

The Content column takes HTML or plain text directly, exactly as typed. If a page’s content is too long for a single spreadsheet cell, just keep typing in the next column over, and the one after that. They get stitched back together in order, with nothing added in between, so it won’t break your code.

Yes it’s in TOOLS, not Settings! There’s other import stuff there so I just figured, hey.

There’s a one-click download for a blank template CSV with the right headers already in place, so you’re never guessing at column names.

Good to know

This is a one-way upload trip. It creates content, but it doesn’t keep a list of what it created, and there’s no built-in undo. Before anything gets generated, a checkbox tells you how many items you’re about to create as a gut check.

If something needs adjusting or removing afterward, that happens the normal way, from the Posts or Pages list, like any other content on your site. You’re on your own for that.

Every item from one upload goes to a single author you choose beforehand on the upload screen. There’s no per-row author control.

I built this specifically because I had a spreadsheet of page titles ready to go for the Amy’s Quilts website and thought “I do not want to create every single one of these posts by hand.”
