Have you ever wanted to see through drunk goggles while being totally sober?
Well you’re in luck, because my WordPress plugin HTMLquake makes various HTML elements on your website shake.
That’s it. That’s the plugin.
Huh?
You get a settings panel that lists out the usual elements–div, p, a, img, header, nav, span, all the standard HTML tags, plus room to add your own custom CSS selectors–each with its own slider from 0 (perfectly still) to 100 (unhinged).
Every element shakes on its own independent, randomized pattern, so nothing looks synced up or robotic. Crank a handful of elements up high enough and just let the page sit there for a bit. Things start to wander.
There’s a small burnt-orange 💥 button that sits in the bottom-left corner of the page for visitors to toggle it on and off if you use the “htmlquake_toggle” shortcode.
Or you can skip the button entirely and have a page shake automatically the moment it loads, with no way to turn it off at all, using the “htmlquake_auto” shortcode.
You’ve probably noticed the button down below. Go ahead, try it. Demo it out right here and see what happens.
Why?
I dunno.
Good to know
It respects reduced-motion settings for anyone who’s told their computer they don’t want things flying around their screen, so it’s not going to blindside anyone who’s opted out of that kind of movement. Otherwise it’s, y’know, not exactly accessibility-friendly for anyone at all.
