Pattern Description
This pattern is built from a tightly repeated square unit, each one containing a small grid of tiny dots enclosed by a thin ruled border, with three pointed, leaf-like shapes radiating outward from the corners of every square to meet the leaves of its neighbors.
The leaf forms curve and taper to sharp points, giving the grid a decorative, floral quality even though the underlying structure is strictly geometric and repeats with total regularity. Where four squares meet, the leaves from each one cluster together into a small pinwheeling rosette, so the eye can read the design two ways at once, as a grid of individual dotted boxes or as an all-over lattice of interlocking blossom shapes. There are twelve dots in each box, and they almost resemble saltine crackers.
It’s a busier, more ornamented pattern than most in this collection, with elaborate shapes and a festive yet ordered feeling. Do you think the leaves look like holly?
