Pattern Description
This pattern is built from a mess of number glyphs, all overlapping and interlocking into a dense woven lattice across the surface. The individual shapes curl and loop the way numeral strokes do, an open loop here, a partial curve there, but the overlapping density keeps any single digit from resolving clearly, so the eye registers texture first and only catches glimpses of familiar numeral logic on closer inspection.
There’s a rough diagonal current running through the piece, with hints of stronger and lighter shading in different bands, both due to the tiling and to the natural slant of the numerical forms. There are repeated groups or clusters that one sees when looking at it from a distance.
The logic behind using numbers in a security envelope pattern is sound–since the numbers will fully confuse any attempt to discern the recipient’s account numbers or other private numerical data, letting it get lost in the jumble.
